Hurricane Ike has swept through the southern U.S. city of Houston and authorities tried to assess damage   from the storm already    which has caused    flooding in  areas along the Texas  Gulf. More than a million people are without power today in Houston and  the coastal city of Galveston  where the storm first made landfall. Rescue workers are concerned about the safety of thousands of people who defied evacuation orders in Galveston and the surrounding area. Here is Galveston's Mayor, Lyda Ann Thomas. "The whole city  is without power right now. We have no idea when it's ganna get turned back on where there are  electrical lines, trees, boats, docks all over the place." U.S. President George Bush called Hurricane Ike a huge storm that is causing great damage. In a statement of the White House this morning, he said he's sending  Homeland's security chief Michael Chertoff   to the gulf coastal region    to assist officials with the recovery efforts.

Shares of Lehman Brothers ended the day lower today despite the fact the company announced a restructuring plan that followed a huge drop   investment bank shares on Tuesday. NPR's Jim Worley has more. Lehman said it would have lost nearly 4 billion dollars this quarter and that comes on top of 2.7 billion dollars in losses the quarter before that. The company said it would sell a majority share of its investment management division but it also suggested it would consider other moves including an outright sale of the entire company. It also said it would cut its stock dividend. The announcement was part of an effort by the company to restore confidence on Wall Street. Lehman has seen its shares plummeted over the past year because of steep losses in mortgage-backed securities. Its shares lost half the value on Tuesday. Lehman did get a vote of confidence. Despite the losses, City Group and Goldman Sachs said that they continued to trade with the company.

昨天忘了把原文贴出来了，今天补一下！
As we gathere here today to make announcements regarding a new bridge. We first in formers want to remember the 13 lives that were lost in this terrible tragedy as well as the nearly 150 individuals who were injured or dreckyly impacted by this tragedy. Our prays and thoughts and support for those who lost their lives and their families and others who were injured or impacted are continue to be foremost in our thoughts and in our minds.
We have today's part of the announcement, er, the unveiling of a concept or design for a memorial where here more about that just moment from the designer of the memorial Tom A. But ensure it is going to be a reference as a remembers' garden. It will be located in Gold Medal part which is just to west of the bridge here. The concept that you will (see there/be seen unveiled )today's result of meetings and communications with family members and people who are impacted by the bridge tragedy.
