In the news of this day, President Braco Obama says nuclear weapons are the most dangerous thing left from the Cold War. Mr. Obama spoke to tens of thousands of people gathered in the Czech capital, Prague. He explained his plan for destroying the world’s existing supply of nuclear weapons. He also called for agreement this year on the new weapons reduction treaty with Russia. And he announced plans to urge the United States Senate to pass the comprehensive test ban treaty. Mr. Obama also talked about Iran. He repeated proposals for contact between Iran and America, but he said the United States would go forward with a missile defense system in Europe as long as Iran remains a threat.

The European Union and United States are urging action against North Korea for violating UN resolutions by launching a rocket. They called for an international answer to North Korea to show that all nations must obey the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council. The United States and the EU accuse North Korea of developing missiles meant to threaten other countries with weapons of major destruction. The Security Council meets on Monday to discuss the issue. North Korea says it send a satellite into orbit as part of a peaceful space program. It says the devices broadcasting revolutionary music over the earth. But the United States says no object entered the orbit. It says some missile parts fell into the Sea of Japan, and others flew over Japan and fell into the Pacific Ocean.

Policy in Pakistan say a suicide bomber has killed 22 people in the town of Chakwal in Punjub province. The bomb exploded at the entrance of a crowed Shiite Muslim religious centre. A police official says the bomber was stopped at the entrance or many more would have been harmed. Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani have strongly condemned the attack. Separately, the Taliban has claimed responsibility for a deadly bombing on Saturday in Islamabad. At least eight soldiers were killed, four others were wounded in that attack.

The report from Kenya says Somali hijackers have seased seized a German ship and its 24 member crew. Andrew Mwangura of the East African sea fairs Seafarers Assistance Program says that the hijackers seized the container ship on Saturday in the Indian Ocean. He says the 20,000-ton ship was hijacked about 700 kilometers off the coast of the Somalia's port of Kismayo. Somalia hijackers said seized many ships over the past 18 month. Ship owners and others have paid hijackers millions of dollars for the release of hostages and property.

Reports from Somalia's capital Mogadishu say a young boy was killed in fighting between rebels and pro-government forces. Witnesses say the boy died and his four brothers were wounded when a shell hit their house. Police say rebels fire shells at government troops and African Union Peacekeepers on Saturday night. The security forces returned fire. An assistant to Somalia's Prime Minister has denied reports that aid agencies must register with the government or leave the country. The official said reports that he had announced such rules were false

powerful earthquake has struck the central Italy, killing more than 90 people and trapping many more. Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi reported at least 1500 people were injured in the quake. The center of the earthquake was about 110 kilometers northeast of Rome, near the city of L’Aquila. Officials say many other towns in the * area were damaged or destroyed. Thousands of homes were destroyed by the earthquake. American scientists say it measured a very strong 6.3 on the main tool for judging the strike strength of earthquake.

Iraqi police say 6 car bombings across Bagdad killed at least 32 people and wounded more than 65 on Monday. The deadliest attack happened in the * city neighborhood where officials say an explosion killed at least 10 people, 28 people were wounded. Another bomb exploded in a car near a group of workers in central Bagdad. That explosion killed 6 people and injured 16 others. And a bomb targeting vehicles carrying interior ministry officials killed two people and wounded several others in eastern Bagdad. Officials say at least 14 people were killed in 3 other bombings in the capital, many more were injured.

Police in Indian say 7 people are dead after 2 bombs exploded in the northeast area of the country. Officials say many others were injured in Monday's attacks. The first bomb exploded in Guwahati, a capital of Assam state. Hours later, a second bomb exploded in another town. Police blamed the attacks on militant group called the United Liberation found Front of Song Assam(阿萨姆联合解放阵线). The South African government has withdrawn corruption charges against African national congress president Jacob Zuma. He had been charged with selling his political influence. North Korea State Media broadcast the first vedio video of leader Kim Jong-il in more than 6 month. The video was shown with stories that called Sunday's rocket launch a success. Mr. Kim was shown visiting factories and farms. The reports said he made the visit late last year. The video is the first to show moving pictures of the leader since his suspected blood mass in the brain last August.

Israeli defense officials say the country has carried out the successful test of a special missile. The missile is designed to protect the country from possible attacks by Iran. Officials say the era-two missile prevented another missile from reaching its target. The second missile was built to act as an Iranian Shahab missile. The experiment was carried out by an Israeli fighter jet over the Mediterranean Sea. Israeli officials say Iran has been building missiles that can deliver a possible nuclear war ahead as far as Israel and beyond.

Thousands of students in the former Soviet Union Republic of Moldova have attacked parliament and the offices of the president. They are protesting the Communist Party's victory in parliamentary elections. Demonstrators in the capital Chisinau threw objects from the parliament building and set the building on fire. Crowds also protested outside the President's home. Police use tear gas and water guns to control the crowd. A local hospital official says more than 20 people were injured in the demonstrations. Moldova's Communist President Vladimir Voronin is supposed to step down Tuesday after two terms of the in office.The new parliament is expected to choose his replacement. Observers from a European Security Organization said the elections made many met requirements for a democratic election, but he said improvement is needed.

In Baghdad, a court has reduced the sentence of the Iraqi news reporter who threw his shoes at President Bush. Mountazer al-Zaidi was announced will now serve one year in prison instead of three. Many supporters and Media Right Groups said the sentence was too severe. Many in the Muslim world praised Mr. Zaidi's actions. Thousands marched in the streets holding their shoes upon the ear air as a demonstration of support.

And in India a sick reporter threw a shoe at Indian's home minister during a news conference. The shoe narrowly missed Home Minister Chidambaram who continued to take questions. Reporter Jarnail Singh questioned the minister about riots in 1984 that left thousands of people dead. He asked about the government investigation that clear the Top Congress Party leader accused of inciting the violence. The riots followed the murder of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her sick bodyguards. As Mr.Singh was led a way by police, he said he regretted throwing the shoe, but he said rising the issue was fair.

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi says the number of people who died in Monday's earthquake is now 260. 16 of the dead were children. The Italian leader said more than 28,000 people have been left without homes. 17,000 of them are staying in temporary camps around the ruining ruined city of L'Aquila. Workers and survivors are still searching for victims in the city and other parts of the area. Cooking areas have been set up in the open to feed survivors. Some hotels are providing free rooms for the homeless and emergency workers. * says he plans to visit the area as soon as possible. The Vatican says the trip will take place after easter Easter.

The American Navy says hijackers have captured two American-flagged ships off the coast of Somalia. Spokeswoman Jean Cambo said 20 Americans are believed to be on the Danish-owned ship, the ‘Maersk Alabama’. The ship was carrying emergency food aid to Monbasa Kenya. It was the 6th ship seized in the area within a week. The incident marks the first time an American-flagged ship has been hijacked in the Gulf of Aden.

Police said about 100,000 protesters have gathered in Bangkok calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva. The protesters get crowded outside the Prime Minister's offices and at a house of a top advisor to King Bhumibol Adulyadej(前两天听过这个名,还是没反应过来,郁闷啊). They accused the advisor of organizing a rebellion in 2006 that ousted former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. Protesters say the gathering could last until Friday. The march is the latest test of Prime Minister Abhisit four-month-old government. He has rejected calls for his resignation.

In Pakistan, police say they arrested at least 5 people in Karachi for supposedly planning attacks in the city. Karachi's Police Chief told reporters Wednesday the men planned to target several government buildings and police head office in Karachi. He said the suspected terrorists belong to the Sunni Extremist Group, Laska-el-Jandi. Police said they recovered weapons and ammunition when they captured the men during the a raid Tuesday night.

American Diplomat Richard Holbrook says India, Pakistan and Afghanistan must work together to fight Islamic extremism. Mr. Holbrook is in India with American Military Chief Admiral Mike Mullen. At the news conference, Mr. Holbrook said the central of the terrorism threat is in Pakistan. But he said the national security increases interests of all three countries are at risk. He denied reports he is putting pressure on the India to restart peace talks with Pakistan. The talks failed after last year's deadly attacks on Mumbai. India says the attacks were plotted in Pakistan.

Tens of thousands of supporters of Anti-American Shiite clergyman have gathered in Baghdad. They are protesting the prisons presence of the American military six years after the forces captured the Iraqi capital. Supporters of Muqtada Al-Sadr met in Firdous Square where Saddam Hussein’s staues stature was pushed over on this date in 2003. And aid to Mr.Al-Sadr delivered a message from religious leader describing the American presences as a crime against all Iraqis. Mr. AL-Sadr is believed to be living in Iran.

A clergyman who negotiated a peace deal in Pakistan's Swat Valley says he and his supporters are living leaving the area. He says they object to the government's failure to inforce enforce Islamic law. Sufi Muhammad said his group is not rejecting the peace deal and aimed at ending hostility between the government and pro-Taliban militants. But he said they will end their peace camps in Swat. Mr. Muhammad said Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has not yet signed the two-month-old deal permitting Islamic law in the area. He said if any violence takes place now, the federal government would be to blame.

Afghan officials say a suicide bomber killed five people during an attack on police fighting the drug trade in southern Afghanistan. A local official says two police officers and three civilians were killed in the attack Thursday in the town of Lash Kar Gah in Helmond province. Officials blamed Taliban militants who use the area’s illegal drug trade to pay for their anti-government activities.

More than 100,000 anti-government protesters in Thailand block traffic in Bangkok. They threatened to move their demonstration to a Southeast Asia Nations conference being held in Pataya. They are considering if the move would put more pressure on Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to resign. The demonstrators support ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. They are also calling for the resignation of a top adviser to the King. On Thursday, about 100 taxi drivers left their cars at a main traffic circle in Bangkok. This made traffic even more difficult than usual.

And in Indonesia, earlier results in parliamentary elections show President * Democratic Party is ahead. With only 20% of the vote counted, the ruling party is leading both the * Party and the main opposition Democratic Party of Struggle. The earlier results are in line with pre-election voter studies.
The President of Sri Lankan has ordered the military to stop its offensive against Tamil Tiger rebels for 48 hours. The order is meant to give civilians time to flee the battle area. President Mahinda Rajapaksa says order begins on Monday at the start of the two-day New Year. The holiday is celebrated by both Enthic Sinhalese and Tamils. There was no immediate answer from the Tamil Tigers. The rebels must agree for civilians to move freely. Diplomats have been working to negotiate a plan for civilians to move to safety.

The United States military says an explosive device has killed an American soldier in Iraq. The military said the device exploded on Sunday in Salah-ad Din province. On Saturday, Iraqi police reported nine people killed in a suicide bombing south of Baghdad. Officials said the bomb exploded near 200 members of a Sunni militia. The men were lined up to receive their wages in the town of Jubala. The Sunni militias also are known as the Awakening Council. They include former resistance fighters. They once were allied with Al-Qaeda, but now were are allied with the Iraqi government and the United States.

The government in Zimbabwe is suspending use of its own money. Economic planning minister Elton Mangoma’s explanation was reported in state media on Sunday. He said Zimbabwe's dollar will be out for at least a year because there is nothing to support and hold its value. High inflation in 2007 and 2008 made Zimbabwe's money almost worthless. Some prices have stopped rising or even have fallen since the government approved the use of money from some foreign countries in January.
And Christians around the world are celebrating the Easter. Tens of thousands of people gathered at the Vatican to hear Pope Benedicg’s holiday message. The Pope said he will carry a message of hope and compromise where when he visits the Middle East next month. He expressed concern about world's financial problems, lack of food, growing poverty, unending conflicts in Africa and war. The Pope also offered special wishes for victims of the recent earthquake in central Italy.
