In wake of the attack on Sri Lanka's cricket team in Lahore, top Indian government officials are calling for Pakistan to take immediate steps to dismantle the terrorist infrastructure in that country. India's Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee says last November's attack on Mumbai and the attempt to kill visiting athletes in Lahore reiterates how serious the danger is from terrorism in Pakistan.

The Sri Lankan team had replaced India for a tour of Pakistan after India withdrew in wake of last November's assault on Mumbai. India contends all of the terrorists in the Mumbai attack came from Pakistan. Political analysts and sport enthusiasts say the repercussions from the attack in Lahore may be felt for years to come. An immediate result is that no foreign team is likely to visit Pakistan again soon. In the longer term a debate is certain to be heard about whether Pakistan should host, as scheduled two years from now, the Cricket World Cup. Steve Herman, VOA News, New Delhi.

As the United States and South Korea began annual joint military drills, North Korea is warning of war if there is an attempt to shoot down a rocket that the North is believed to be preparing for launch. VOA's Kurt Achin has a report from Seoul.

North Korea cut its final military hotline with South Korea, ending the usual communication system for arranging limited crossings of the tense inter-Korean border. Several-hundred South Koreans who manage a joint industrial park in North Korea are stranded there, for now. South Korean Unification Ministry Spokesman Kim Ho-nyoun says the government is taking measures to ensure their safety, which he says is a top priority. He says the South Korean government has been patient with North Korea's recent actions, and demands it stop its tension-raising behavior. North Korea says it cut communications in response to what it calls "war exercises" underway between the United States and South Korea. An announcer on North Korean state-run television says the joint drills are like a declaration of war, and pose a serious threat to the country. The United States deploys about 28, 000 troops in South Korea to deter the North from invading South Korea, as it did in 1950. Top U. S. and South Korean officers say the annual exercises are routine and defensive in nature. Kurt Achin, VOA News, Seoul.

Bangladesh is blocking access to the popular media-sharing internet site YouTube because of audio contents. Steve Herman has a report from New Delhi.
This is what Bangladesh apparently does not want its citizens to hear. Those are the apparent voices of angry army personnel shouting at the commander-in-chief, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The soldiers were criticizing her handling of the mutiny by border guards who killed scores of their commanders. The recording was made on March 1 during an emotional meeting at the Dhaka cantonment. Hundreds of officers were present, distraught after paramilitary soldiers brutally killed more than 50 members of the army, including many of the leaders of the Bangladesh Rifles border force. According to the posting on the YouTube web site, the tape was uploaded by Maihul Islam Nasim, a reporter for the Bangla TV community channel in London. Bangladeshi media say access to YouTube, one of the world's top Internet sites for sharing video clips, has been blocked in the interest of national security. Steve Herman, VOA News, New Delhi.
